| Early Johann Hoff malt bottle with a cool, flat-headed blob top and deep recessed base, orange amber with a touch of honey. Embossed "Joh: Hoff - Berlin" on either side of shoulder, 3 pt. mold, cleaned to about perfect with some remaining minor stain in the neck. Two minor base edge nicks for accuracy. This is an 1870's bottle, unlike the front embossed HOFF of the 1880's or the very common shoulder embossed 1890's versions. Dave Beeler had a similar Liebig in his eBay store, dug with all 1870's items--sold for $29.00. This would be a nice companion for 29.00 plus 15 for the cleaning = $34.00. $6.50 shipping. | This crudely misshapen bottle, if memory serves, was also from the same Memphis 20 ft. brickliner that the bullseye base ale came from. It is a rich shaded amber with an applied double taper top. The base could be mistaken for an improved pontil but is not. There is a faint keymold impression. This bottle was very sick with water scaling, and scratched up badly -- and had a small lip edge chip. But the form and color are so unusual I felt it was worth working on. I cleaned it but inside stain, scratches and scaling remained. I had it for sale, practically giving it away, then decided to work on it further. I buffed out the lip chip and gave it a second, heavier 3-stage cleaning. Deeper scratches, some scaling and some inside stain remnants still remain but it is much improved. Not perfect, but presentable, and I would dare to call it rare. I have never seen a lager shape in this color in over 30 years of collecting - they are usually green and pontiled. $7.00 shipping. | ||||
